E MINOR SEVEN CHORD
Written Materials for This Lesson
Fretting Hand - Em7 Chord (2nd finger, 2nd fret of the A string; all other strings are open)
Strumming Hand - Strum all strings, Downstroke
Written: E minor 7, Emin7, Emi7, Em7, E-7

Great! This chord is one you will use in real songs. You may even recognize the sound of this chord from some of your favorite songs. Chords can be tricky. Our goal is to place our middle finger just behind the second fret of the A string while leaving all the other strings open so they can ring out when we strum all six strings. Make an effort to use the tip of your finger. This will help both adjacent strings the freedom to ring clear and true.

All Strings Open

  • E (6th) string (Low) = open
  • A (5th) string = second (2nd) finger, second (2nd) fret
  • D (4th) string = open
  • G (3rd) string = open
  • B (2nd) string = open
  • E (1st) string (High) = open
